Abstract. Recently, Indonesia has been faced with several cases regarding the crisis of the character of children. Therefore, character education is an important aspect for future generations, since an individual is not enough to be provided with academic education, but also moral education. Thus, an effort is needed to revise and improve the quality of education. One of the efforts made to improve the quality of character education is to use the story telling method, as applied by the Al- Azhar 36 SMPI Teacher Bandung. The theory used in this study is instructional communication. The purpose of this study was to find out the efforts of Al-Azhar SMPI 36 Bandung teachers in shaping the character of their students; to find out the reason applying the story telling method to their students; and to find out the obstacles experienced by the teacher in telling stories. The method used in this study is a qualitative method with a case study approach. The results of this study indicate that the reason underlying the teacher in shaping the character of students through the story telling method is because students more easily understand the message intended by the teacher. The instructional communication method of the teacher in shaping the character of students is done by telling stories, and by delivering morning spirit. The obstacle felt by the teacher in conveying the story is the lack of insight about the story conveyed and the limited learning time in the classroom.Keywords: Instructional communication, Method of Story, CharacterAbstrak. Belakangan ini Indonesia dihadapkan dengan beberapa kasus mengenai krisisnya karakter anak. Oleh karena itu, pendidikan karakter merupakan aspek yang penting bagi generasi penerus, karena seseorang individu tidak cukup hanya dibekali pembelajaran akademik saja, tetapi juga pendidikan moral. Dengan demikian, diperlukan suatu upaya untuk memperbaiki dan meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan. Salah satu upaya yang dilakukan untuk meningkatan kualitas pendidikan karakter adalah dengan menggunakan metode cerita, seperti yang diterapkan oleh Guru SMPI Al-Azhar 36 Bandung. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah komunikasi instruksional. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana upaya guru SMPI Al-Azhar 36 Bandung dalam membentuk karakter siswanya. Untuk mengetahui alasan guru menerapkan metode cerita kepada siswanya dan untuk mengetahui hambatan yang dialami guru dalam menyampaikan cerita. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa alasan yang mendasari guru dalam membentuk karakter siswa melalui metode cerita adalah karena siswa lebih mudah memahami pesan yang dimaksud oleh guru. Metode komunikasi instruksional guru dalam membentuk karakter siswa dilakukan dengan cara bercerita, dan menyampaikan morning spirit. Hambatan yang dirasakan oleh guru dalam menyampaikan cerita adalah kurangnya wawasan mengenai cerita yang disampaikan serta terbatasnya waktu pembelajaran di kelas.Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Instruksional, Metode Cerita, Karakter |
