Abstract:
Stress is a dynamic interaction condition that includes physical, emotional, and psychological responses between individuals and their environment. Stress in medical
students is more susceptible to psychological stress due to additional stress burdens, namely longer study programs, denser learning, and less rest time. When experiencing high levels of stress and poor coping strategies are the main factors that cause burnout. Burnout is a condition of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. When someone feels bored both mentally and physically, helpless, has no hope due to increased workload or prolonged stress. This study aims to determine the relationship between stress levels and the incidence of burnout in 3rd year students of the Faculty of Medicine, Bandung Islamic University, Academic Year 2023/2024. This study used a cross-sectional analytical design and data collected through the Medical Student Stressor Questionnaire (MSSQ) questionnaire for the stress variable and the Freundenberger and Richelson Burnout scale in Indonesian for the burnout variable. The results of this study indicate that many 3rd year students experience moderate stress, namely 84 people (48.9%), and many 3rd year students experience moderate burnout, namely 93 people (54%). This study uses the Fisher Exact test with a P value <0.000 which shows significance between the two variables, this is because the high activity and academic load of students of the Faculty of Medicine results in increasingly severe stress levels. Stress that continues to occur and is not resolved with good management can cause high burnout.
